These teachings may have saved my life.

Postby ericcris10sen » Thu Mar 21, 2013 3:14 am

I was in the US military for 3 years. During that time I was extremely depressed and had a lot of mental issues due to stress of my job. When I got out, I thought it would have gotten better, but it didn't. Stress of going from military to civilian life was taking a drastic toll on my mental/financial stability and I was going down a slippery slope. I was depressed, angry, a couple times I had suicidal thoughts, and I was always irritated. I didn't know how I was going to last.

I have always interested in Monks and Buddhism and those teachings and their ways of life. When I sat back and observed how my life was going, I felt utterly disgusted with my lack of will to continue and proceeded to get my life back in order. I decided right then and there that I needed a change and decided to read books on Buddhism and attune myself with the teachings of Buddhism.

The teachings and everything that I've read and practiced, has turned my life around in a 180 turn. I'm a much happier person, I have more positive outlook on life and the events that are happening in my life, and all those problems I was having, i.e. depression and anger, etc....are completely gone. After about a week of learning what it's about and actually practicing meditation and putting everything I've learned into my every day life, it was a complete turn around. I take the teachings very seriously and it's such a relief to find something that has taught me to just take all my pain and suffering and release it from my mind.

Hi there,

you saved your life and brought it around...
I understand what you're saying...you couldn't take the way you were feeling/thinking and or the consequences that lay before you by letting this situation continue and you committed yourself to a life transformation.

I find that very inspiring.

make a choice and live a solution.

thank-you for sharing your hope.

I've been listening to youtube videos with similar teachings over the years, such as Alan Watts, etc, and I guess they do help, but I think it's not a bad idea to combine them with something from the opposite end of spectrum, such as stand-up comedy, or I don't know. Something less otherworldy. Even though such teachings talk about and give decent advice on being grounded, I felt like I was floating in space most of the time. (I still enjoy meditation and think it's healthy, but a moderate one)
