Hello Maggie, I also have had "conversion disorder" for two years.
I am so pleased to have found someone with the same problem, as it has been so hard not having anyone who understands the difficulties.

conversion disorder

Postby triciasmam » Sat Apr 24, 2004 6:39 pm

Hi im so pleased to have found this site, over the two and a half years that ive had conversion disorder i havent come across any other sufferers.

My symptons started when i collapsed, i suffered poor speech not being able to swallow, paralysis of left hand side, unable to sit up or controll my head movements, muscle spasms, and seizures.

The drs thought id had a stroke, but after seeing a neurologist, having a MRI scan, CT scan and EEG, and nothing showing up they gave me the diagnosis of conversion disorder.

Two and a half years on i have recovered my speech am able to eat again normally, have more feeling in my left hand side than i had.

I am still in a wheelchair outside i can take a few steps with a crutch with assistance, although my left leg and foot turn inwards.
i still get muscle spasms but not has bad, i have trouble with vomiting but am ok has long has i take my anti sickness medication, i still suffer badly from pseudoseizures(non epileptic seizures) which do affect my quality of life.

I try to be has independant has i can but with great difficulty

Would anyone like to share there experiences of living with this disorder and there symptons of it.

I would love some e.mail pals with this disorder.

Best wishes Sonia.

Mandi,

Welcome to the forums, looks like most the messages in this thread were written some time ago, so don't take it personal if you don't get replies. I hope you do though. If you don't, stick it out and try to get something going here. :)

I don't know much about conversion disorder, I know it says moderator by name but I don't moderate this forum and that would be a darn good reason, cause I know nothing about it. :)

Anyway, welcome and I hope you find some people to talk to. I know that lonely feeling when it feels like you are the only one in the world that has some condition. Nice to know you're not alone. You're not, just gotta get the others to find this spot and stay. :)

conversion disorder reply

Postby visigoth76@hotmail.com » Thu Jun 24, 2004 11:36 pm

 Hello All,

Hope one doesn't have to be British to submit to this forum  Only joking. I'm from Pennsylvania and I have had Con Dis for 3 years and to quote another member of the forum it does infact bite the "big one."
For me it began in college. I was misdiagnosed several times, but I will persist with improving my balance and coordination so that I dont have to walk with a cane any longer. And also take steps without falling, which I often do.
Sometimes I cry and want to give up the ghost, but after that feeling subsides I find that I am still alive and breathing, so I go on. I will not stop until I am better. God is good and I believe in myself. Please write back with any input for me.

Frustration as a middle name,
Christine
