Anyone with this disorder?

Postby Snowy » Mon Aug 29, 2005 1:00 am

Hi all,

I am new here and joined tonight. Hope you are all well.

I am wandering if anyone here suffers with somatization/somatoform disoder? (Conversion disorder as well).

I have it myself and have never met anyone else with it. (I am diagnosed with somatization disorder).

To put you in the picture, I'm Becky, 30 and have been ill for 8 years with somatization/somatoform disorder.

I have been in a wheelchair until last year when I started walking a bit with a walking stick and only needing the wheelchair occasionally. Unfortunately I've just had a relapse and the right side of my body has gone numb with pins and needles and am dragging my right leg.

Well, for 8 years I have had symptoms similar to multiple sclerosis and have even gone blind in one eye before now which thankfully is ok now.

It would be nice to meet someone online with the similar disorder.

Love,

Becky

I was diagnosed with conversion disorder over 13yrs ago, I have also never ever met anyone else with it.
I have had to raise my kids, (alone) and manage on my own as I have been unable to get much in the way of treatment, or even recognition of the physical disability caused by my condition.
Initially they tried to convince me to give away my kids and they preformed a tubal litigation whislt I was in a Psychiatrict ward, so that I couldnt have any more.
I also use a wheelchair most (99%) of the time, my condition also replicates MS. But I suffer chronic pain as well.
My right side is my worst and when occasionally able to walk it drags, plus my right foot twists and drags, apparently I now have nerve damage in it. I also suffer occasional blindness and many other symptoms (wont bore you with them all).
They kept telling me for about 8-9 yrs it will go away in a month or two, now they dont evenm see me. I get the impression that my Dr's have put me in the too hard basket.
Now I struggle alone.
