Adolescent Suffering With Conversion Disorder

My 14 year old daughter has been told she has conversion disorder. After fainting, she cannot walk. She has reflexes in her legs, and can feel someone with something sharp pricking on them, but cannot stand. She will start counseling, and they have said that something has scared her into this state.

This was determined after an MRI, CATSCAN, and neuroligical testing. They assure me it is a temporay condition, and as soon as she finds out what has scared her, or is bothering her, she will walk again.

It is very scarey, but I have checked with many specialist, and it does happen.

My 14 year old niece has been experiencing back pain and recently she simply lost the use of her legs and hasn't walked for almost 2 months. After scans etc. at hospital came back clear, they are considering that she has conversion disorder.

You say your 14 year old daughter had a similar problem after fainting. As I note your Post was some time ago, can you please tell me if your daughter has shown any signs of improvement and if so, did she receive treatment etc?

my episodes are brought on by stress or upset but i dont know how to lead a normal life without stress. each episodes means i am almost completly paralysed, trouble swallowing, talking etc, as well as agonising pain. my last episode, which i am in right now, was brought on when i went to see my terminally ill grandmother, who unfortunately died on sunday while i was in hospital. my parents are considering a divorce and my brother has tourettes syndrome which also creates stress in the family. my mum also had to go into hospital for an operation. i had therapy in one of londons best neurological hospitals but with all that going on in my life, how can i eliminate stress?? i cant see me ever getting better. anybody feel the same?
