Does anyone ever get better?

Postby FOREVER » Fri Feb 23, 2007 7:06 pm

I have been suffering from this for 13-21yrs, and I just want to know if anyone ever recovers from this condition?
What treatments have worked for others and does medication help?

I have never had the chance to ask these questions before as I have never knowingly met another person with CD and Dr's I have seen dont even seem to know what the conditon is, apart from the original that diagnosed it and He seemed to think getting rid of my kids and living a life without them plus remarrying and so on would cure me.

Any help/answers appreciated! :?

You know what? Thats a question I've been avoiding having to face for a long time.

The psychiatrist who diagnosed mne said that the longer I'm left without treatment the more likely it is that my disability will be permeanent. And recently I've been told it will be around 2 years befor etreatment can begin, on top of the year I've already been living with it.

Not looking goiod.

Ive been told things can improve but they can never be sure thats its gone away, its not as if you can see it on a scan etc. Im having CBT at the moment, Im not sure if its working. Ive not had an episode since just before Xmas but that doesnt mean much. Im just trying to stay hopeful.

Yes, it can get better

Postby Mic » Sun Sep 02, 2007 1:31 pm

I´ve just found this site and thought I´d answer this post. Yes, it can get better and yes, CD can even disappear. I had a severe form of CD which left me severaly disabled. No-one could work out what was wrong with me and it was only when the doctors and mainly myself got to the root of the problem that I got better. It ended up that the CD were physical memories of sexual abuse in my childhood. I had repressed these memories until this year (i.e. 27years long). The CD appears to have been the first step to regaining the memories. Once the memories came back the CD symptoms eased up majorly within a couple of days. I´ve still got a lot of work in front of me dealing with the memories of the abuse, but at least the CD has virtually disappeared. The CD symptoms only come back when I´m heavily triggered or am regaining new memories. Has anyone else in this forum has had a similar experience????

Well my experience is similar in that I only have episodes now when Im heavily triggered too, it does ease up when you stop bottling up emotions and get to the bottom of what has affected you. I wasnt abused but, like everyone, I have had problems in the past. Just talking about them has made my episodes less frequent, I would recommend CBT.

Probably he thought that your life was under quite a lot of stress and removing the stress would help (which is very possible).
