Finally admitted it tonight!

Postby Elli » Sat Nov 27, 2010 2:46 am

I'm in my 40's and finally admitted to my therapist tonight that I've been a compulsive liar since I was in preschool. Little lies for the heck of it, whoppers that took extended planning, even some horridly shameful lies about going through stuff that I would never wish on anyone.

Sometimes I know why I'm lying and sometimes I don't, but it's always very difficult to stop myself. I've had to end relationships and move to other states to avoid being found out in the past, and now I'm in a situation for the very first time when someone found me out before I could leave. I panicked and tried to cover up with another lie, but it's not working. So I bit the bullett and admitted it to my therapist, in anticipation of being fired very soon.

Now comes the task of having to admit to others who are going to find out. In an odd sort of way I'm at peace with it all and just want to move on with a fresh start.

Hey,

I'm happy for you - I know 'that' feeling of having accomplished something great and positive. Do you really think that it is necessary to go back to tell 'everyone' about your lies? You just have to focus on those who currently matter in your life. If you don't want someone to be your friend in the future (someone that you had lied to previously) then there's just no point going back to tell them that you had lied to them. Concentrate on those who matter the most to you, and make amends with yourself not to lie to those new people who will enter your life.

You are at the precipice of a new life, so try to change other things too. Out with the old; in with the new - that's what they say, isn't it?
