I don't really know when I started lying. My mom says it was when I was 12. I had goteen a bad set of results in school and I didn't want my parents to get angry so I said nothing about it. My parents found out anyway but it took them a while so I began to think that it was a good way to get out of trouble.
Anyway, I started text messaging a girl about a month ago. It was nothing too big; we had met at a match at the local sports club and exchanged numbers, and we were texting each other almost daily. It turned out I had gone over the amount of texts on my contact by about 12 times and I was really scared so I said nothing. Mom and Dad found out and were annoyed and upset that I hadn't told them about the girl (she's my first girlfriend so I didn't know what they'd think). Anyway, she's from another part of the country so I told my mom she was from somewhere closer to make sure she didn't get angry at me. They've found out and they say I lie too much so they won't let me talk to her, and that they don't trust me anymore. This is really upsetting me as we used to have an incredible relationship and I want that back again. I understand that I have issues about lying and I'm also under a lot of pressure to revise (I have my first set of state exams in June)
I would appreciate any advice that you guys could give me

Welcome to the forum.
These 2 posts I wrote will help you with your lying. The first explains why lying addicts/ compulsive liars lie and the second gives tips, tools and techniques for how to stop lying. They will work if you work them. Good Luck...

Welcome to the board,
The good news is you are still young so you probably don't have a long history of messes to clean up. Knowing you have a problem and being willing to fix it are good signs also. Read the guides Billi posted, they will get you started in the right direction.

i too am suffering from my own lies. i just read the link that Bill posted about why we lie and i felt like you were talking right to me about all my issues and insecurities. I am just now beginning to admit what a true problem lying and self deception can be. I hope to continue to learn more from people here and start saying the truth without fear!
