*seizures*

Postby Unkn0wn » Mon Jul 03, 2017 5:21 pm

I've had 2 "grand mal seizures" in march. Wednesday thru Sunday I've had 40 non life threatening "seizures." The first option the doctors provide is cognitive trauma and/or stress. They've been adjusting my meds a lot. I spent 6 years in a highly stressful and childish work environment. I was happy to be terminated because of my physical limitations (back surgery. nerve damage. muscle atrophy) so I was incapable of performing my duties and didn't feel comfortable about being promoted to a store manager because I couldn't fulfill my duties. If it's stress, why would it hit me when I'm not longer stressed? Am I having stress withdrawal? (Sounds dumb. Yes I know) I did start therapy. She said I blocked out my childhood and we need to figure out why. I couldn't make it to my 3rd or 4th appointment because I had a "grand mal seizure" I haven't been back since. Has anyone heard of seizures caused by trauma/stress? Half the doctors say I'm epileptic. The other half say it's all in my head.

Well, this is my own speculation and personal experience; I am not a doctor.
First, I would say to have a seizure starts with an imbalance in the brain.
It's the stress that can trigger them, psyching yourself out.
I can build anxiety all the way until I put myself in a partial seizure.
A trauma...in meaning a specific event or action that you associate with having a seizure..? Anxiety enflames this...it's about breathing and trying to stay HERE in this reality that can help deter.

I've gone through MRIs, cats scans, sleep studies, EEGs.
I currently take Lamotigine to help control my seizures.
I would go through an MRI, EEG, and cat scan and take it from there.

I had forgotten about this post. “Seizures” went into overdrive. Went to Emory for seizure and migraine specialists. Changed my neurologist to an epilepsy specialist. I’ve done all the tests and scans. They’ve found nothing. I’ve been on lamotrigine for my anger so they doubled it and they added keppra so I wouldn’t have epileptic seizures. Nobody has an answer.

I know this answer is late to the train, but yes, stress can cause seizures.

I vouch for this since my mother and FIL have had different kinds of seizures due to a reaction to sudden or ongoing, prolonged stress. Doctors often do not take this factor into account when diagnosing seizures.
