strange situation

Postby stargazer01 » Sun Sep 03, 2006 5:05 am

I'm not sure really how to say this, other than just putting it out there as it is. I'm not sure how to go about handling this situation, The problem isn't mine, it's my daughter's. She's sexually reactive due to some inappropriate "games" from her cousins. I'm setting up an appointment for her with mental health proffessionals in the area, but what more can I do to curb this?
Let me explain what I mean...
My daughter is 6 years old, her female cousins ages are 7 and 5. The 7 year old starts "acting out" what she caught her father and his GF doing one night, with my daughter. This was a one time thing and was stopped once it was caught.
Since then, I have noticed that my daughter has begun the same with her stuffed animals. I'm afraid that she may do something more to others. I have only just now realized what this may be, but I have no idea how to handle this...

can anyone help me???

Most children explore their sexuality, and although we don't like to think about it, many do things that feel pleasurable.

The advice that I have read the most often about this, is to not shame the child, but just tell the child they must do these things in private.

While I do agree that kids do experiment sexually, for example they may masturbate, some times playing with dolls in a certain sexual way can be a sign of sexual abuse.. You should take your daughter to a therapist, and be very supportive and tell she can tell you anything and that you will believe her

I had the same exact thing happen to me and it messed me up. Some people say sex play is normal. I guess it depends on what they did. Age difference etc. but if she is acting out she needs therapy. I wish I had, had it in time. I acted out on my stuffed animals too and I am still sexually screwed up to this day.

Eventually, a 6 years old is too young to realize things about sex. Maybe you could talk to her at first before heading to a mental health professional but if the scenario is getting worse then it's the time to ask the help of a health professional.
