What I'm going to say here isn't through disrespect for any individual or group, because I know there are many good people doing some damned good deeds and making a huge difference to those around them. But how many people are as frustrated as me? Probably quite a few. The media aren't interested in a few pipsqueak people who stand up and make a noise, and yes I include myself as one of those pipsqueak people. We can get as many petitions signed as we like but what difference is it going to make? Very little. Just because we're passionate about what we do, it doesn't mean anyone else has to be. Apathy reigns, or at least resignation that we can only do so much. There are so many that are appalled at child abuse and some are trying to do something about it but all they're doing is working away inside a box of their own choosing. If you only do what you've always done, you only get what you've always got. If all you've ever done is stayed within your little box, don't expect any more. Don't expect any more change than you've already got.
The only way we're going to make a real difference - any of us - is through people power. The next petition you get hundreds to sign will probably get binned along with all the rest of them. Yes, it did take a lot of time and effort to put it all together but that doesn't mean anyone in power has to take any notice of it.
The only way we're going to make any real difference is for people to come together and make a noise that those in power are going to hear. If it doesn't happen, all we're going to get is what we've always got. Until we change, nothing else will. Time to talk.
