9YEAR OLD STEPSON IN TROUBLE

Postby missy » Sun Feb 06, 2005 1:47 pm

:?: I am the step mother of a 9 yr old.He is a very lovable child ,but I am scared for him.
He lives with his mother and stepfather in a very abusive home. The stepfather has been charged with 5th degree domestic on the mother and yet she still stays with him.
The concern is that my stepson has been telling us things that his stepfather has been doing to him, things like locking him out of the house, calling him loser, even threatening to kick him in the head. The police know his familys house very well. We have contacted the police who in turn contacted cps.But when the mother was questioned she lied and said that the stepson is doing it for attention,so nothing happened.
I would believe this answer if I didnt see the effects on this child for myself. He has no self esteem to speak of and when he is at our house he is always looking for approval in everything, he has promblems with lying and stealing. He tells us that his mother keeps taking him to the doctor to find out why he is so angry. At his mothers house he has no control over himself and acts out quite often, here he doesnt do that. The mother had him diagnosed with adhd but I dont think this is his promblem ( I also have a son with adhd, cd and learning disabilites)I think the mother is just looking foer an excuse so she doesnt have to face the facts.
If we cant get CPS to take us seriously an dlisten how are we supposed to protect this kid?

Missy,

I think you did the right thing by contacting CPS. I know what you mean about CPS not doing anything b/c I have been a vitim before. And I told CPS but they listened to the parents instead of the victim. I was not able to get out of the situation that I was in until my grandparents got a lawyer and then eventually got me out of there. This may be scary feor the child, but I am sure he will never regret it once it gets him out of there. Maybe you should get a small take recorder or a camera and place it in that home somehow. But it has to be small so they don't find out about it. And once you have got enough on tape to report, they will not be able to argue or go against what you are saying.

Wonder if you made arrangements to take him to a therapist when he is in your care, the therapist would back up your concern to law enforcement.

This seems like the best idea.
Monte Carlo or Bust
Rose and Patrick
Batcho and Fortune (twins), Paul and Lilly,
No-one and Peter, Beth and Karen, Mandy and Mouse plus a seperate system of fragments including: rabit and others.
