In Australia we have a case of a murdered child's abuser before the courts, maybe once a year in, maybe twice.
Over the years the worst cases of abuse never seem to get any worse, just the details change.
I still remember one very tragic storey of a young boy maybe 2 1/2 years old back in 1993, to my surprise, the killer's surprise and certainly his lawyers surprise, he did not get the 5-8 every one was expecting, but 24 years with 18 non parole.
This case was no worse, I think they reach a point where they hit the bottom of what a human can do to a child, but the judge set a new bench mark, of 40 years with 30 non parole. Again his family was shocked in court, but it is so good to see times are a changing.
Biggest change between the two cases, is what happened to the mothers that decided to shack up with these creatures. Back in 1993, she was looked upon as a victim, incapable of looking after the welfare of her son. Same circumstances, but this time they said, "that no matter how tough things are dear, you should have grabbed your kid and run " ...she got 9 non parole.
Precedents set, I am sure next time they will be larger.
So good to see such horrific crimes properly punished.
Sorry if it upsets anyone
