Bruises

Postby Astra » Fri Nov 04, 2005 4:08 pm

Does anyone else find they get random bruises from being mia? I notice I get them on my legs often, and sometimes my arms. I'm not a klutz, and I'd notice if I banged into something, so I'm assuming it's because of mia. I never got this when I wasn't purging. Is this just me?

Hi fellow Ontarian. :)

I do get bruising however not from an eating disorder. I think it comes with what we are lacking in our diet, I know that i'm lacking alot of stuff including alot of fluids. Dehydration can cause brusing as well, same with lack of Iron which causes Anemia.

I get brusing on my upper leg and thighs, notice it and I wonder how it got there...

I've just been wondering this about myself ONCE AGAIN! Ironic that you bring it up...but yes...I have lots of bruising up and down my legs and like you...I've not fallen or been abused by anyone. I wondered if it had to do w/ my diet because I get this even when I've been mia free for some time.

This makes a lot of sense. I remember hearing a lot about electrolytes, but I don't know much about it. We should probably be taking vitamins or something.

Is it weird that it's usually only on our legs though? I have a HUGE bruise on the back of me knee, it's ridiculous! I definitly would've noticed if I had hit something.

*Go Canada! Not in the hockey way though *

 Don't watch hockey only if everyone else does hehe.

Brusing can happen any where I think, I think also vitamins is a good idea, that's something I should be doing.. Mainly I've only noticed the bruises above my knee and thigh.

Howdy-hi all you lovely peoples! Just wanted to say a big

WOW!!!

:D  :D :o

I've always just thought I 'bruised easily'! Whenever people have commented on where I got certain bruises, I sound like a broken record, saying; 'Where? Geez, I haven't noticed that. I don't know how I got it. I just bruise easily'. Which makes people think I'm weird, or hiding some kind of abuse or something, because a lot of them are just too bad for a 'normal' person to not know exactly how they got there. And comments such as when someone playfully hits me, I'll say 'OMG, I'm going to have a bruise there tomorrow', which they consider as me just mucking around, but I really DO end up with one!

I've NEVER thought it to be connected with eating, or lack of! I just thought it was my natural make-up. Maybe because my eating's been screwed up for long enough for me to think it's normal?

However, I must admit that ever since I started taking multi-vitamin tablets (a few months ago) I can't recall any significant bruising! AMAZING! I highly recommend you guys try them. They boost you in so many ways. They also ease your mind a LOT, coz you're not completely depriving yourself of fuel for living. I don't think they contain any fat, either.

There are lots of little things you'll start to notice, too. The biggest one for me has been my nails. My nails have always been really brittle, and before they reach any attractive length, they start to chip/peel and I tend to bite them to try and even them up a little. But ever since I've been taking the multi-vits, my nails have been miraculously strong, thick, and healthy-looking. I'm no longer embarrassed to let people see my hands! (They're almost impossible to bite, too! YAY!)

Another thing; have you guys noticed that you have really bad circulation? My hands are always purple, and also my face. I also go red very easily. I've found I'm freezing, and get cold shivers when I haven't eaten in a while, and if I eat even the slightest amount, I get really hot 'flushes', if you'd call them that. Just hot all over, but especially the face.

My friends used to always muck around with me coz I turned red easily. They also used to poke my hands all the time, and my face, coz it'd turn white, they gradually change back to purple! It's quite fun, really. But kinda scary coz noone else's skin does it!

Peace out. 8)

isn't it funny how we ruin ourselves w/ bulimia but at the same time we will take precautions for our health...bulimia causing brusing?...don't forget those vitamins!....bulimia affecting your teeth and gums....don't brush directly after, etc .etc. etc. Too bad we couldn't put as much into flat out recovering from bulimia so we didn't have these other health factors to contend w/....as we put into our preventive precaution measures huh?

Hahaha, it's so true! But that's like anything I think. When I used to do a lot of drugs, we'd talk about who we'd gotten it from, make sure it was clean, etc etc etc. It was like, um, you are doing DRUGS, hello!!!

How bad do you think mia is for you, really though? I know we've all heard the stories of people dying and such, and there are the little every day things like bruising and teeth issues. But does it actually do as much harm as they say? Sorry, not being pro-mia here, not at all. I just wonder sometimes...
