Is purging freehand a death sentence?

Postby Suicidal-Addictions » Sun Jul 17, 2011 4:23 am

I was reading an article about freehand being a death sentence. I mean I somehow agree because most people that purge freehand have had an eating disorder awhile so there body is wearing down, and their gag reflex is triggered by tiny things. I have been purging freehand almost 8 months now and it is horrible because since I first did it I bp way more. I have been bulimic somewhere between 2-3 years I have lost track. What do you guys think about this? I think it has some positive health sides (very little, nothing is healthy about bulimic) too though like no scratches in the back of your throat and no calluses on the knuckles.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "freehand". Do you mean flexing the stomach muscles to make the food come back up without sticking anything in your throat?
Blame it on me, but know that I won't regret one iota.

I would not have thought that it is any worse or better than using your fingers but I am not sure TBH, the problem is any bp is bad for you. The main danger is electrolyte disturbance and that will happen however you throw up. Do you have the link for the article?

Um no, I will try and find the article again. Also, kinda freehand isn't always stomach muscles it is just purging without sticking things down your throat. Also it makes some sense because if your at the point of not having to gag yourself then obviously the purging you have done is beginning to affect your reflexes(I think that is the right word there, but maybe not?) greatly.

I see what you are saying but it does not take away from the other dangers of throwing up such as electrolyte disturbance. Is this how you throw up, is it why you are so worried about it?

I have no idea how you can purge freehand, I have been doing this off and on now for 6 years, and it certainly doesn't help me loose weight, all it does is empty my stomach and make me hungry all over again, It's a never ending cycle :/
it just makes me mentally feel better though that i threw up

I know that feeling so well, both of wanting to eat again and of feeling better after you have done it. But I really hope that one day you will get to a place where you realise that you dont need to hurt yourself by being sick to make yourself feel better.

It probably depends on the methods. Don't know what you mean specifically but the basics...

in terms of Ingesting substances that is of course very very dangerous. As I have also read, the ingestion of another less dangerous substance (which I wont specify) can also be dangerous. At the end of the day, some methods are more detrimental than others, but all of the behaviours are unhealthy. Anything messing with electrolytes (water and salt) is something that comes with consequences big and small.

Just to reiterate any form of purging comes with consequences some of which are lethal. And to remind everyone that no tips on how to purge should be shared on this forum. Thank you.

I've been bulimic/anorexic for the past 28 years and constant purging can mess up the mechanisms in the throat that move food to the stomach. It's so not worth it. As far as it being a death sentence, any eating disorder can be a death sentence, and the problem is you never know when it will take you. While someone might be okay for a long time (like me), someone else might die within a year (know someone who did). So any eating disorder, no matter what you do, is like playing russian roulette with your life.
