I was recently diagnosed about a month ago with BPD. While I have been doing extensive research about this disorder I am still learning new things about it. For example, I never realized what a stigma there was against people with BPD. I was reading previous posts and apparently, some people think we BPDers are monsters. Now, I am the farthest thing I know from a monster but it still sucks to be thought of as one. Oh well. I suppose people who automatically think that without even reading up on BPD aren't people I'd want to be friends with anyway.
Anyway, I suppose this is just my introduction to the forum. I am in a very transitional period of my life right now (not precipitated by but not unrelated to my diagnosis), so I am looking for all types of support right now as I get the treatment I need. It's nice to meet you all.

I think the reason why they would assume is because of the other names BPD has. And all sound very bad to begin with, like :
Emotional Dysregulation Disorder
Emotional Regulation Disorder
Emotional Intensity Disorder
Impulsive Personality Disorder
Impulsive-Emotional Dysregulation Disorder
Which either way for me, sounds just as bad as Borderline Personality Disorder. Those names are also, for me, a bit misleading, but regardless, I think Borderline Personality Disorder does sound a bit misleading as well...

Don't forget Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, Ana
Welcome, birdsong. I haven't been here very long but it seems like a really friendly and helpful place, so I'm sure you'll find the support you want and need

I wouldn't get too caught up in what other people think of the disorder, it won't really help you get better and can be fairly upsetting.

Thank you guys for the warm welcome. I've been looking at a few places online for support and this is the one that seemed the most responsible to me as far as moderators go. It also was the most organized forum as far as topics being divided. Call it an eccentricity but I like it when things are organized. I'm not that great at it myself, but I like it LoL.
P.S. I really like your avatars, guys.

And I hope to see you around!
