How to make the clouds go away!

Postby Winterblue » Thu Sep 20, 2012 4:13 am

So I know what it should feel like to be happy and that I must have felt it once, but it's been so long that I have that I long to feel it again....how do we make the clouds go away when all it ever seems is one event after another that upsets, hurts or confuses?? Does anyone know how to start feeling happier? I think i've lost it for good!

I have the same feeling many days though I describe it as a dark shroud.

For me it dissipates as I get closer to people. Making friends and having people, even acquaintances that I feel care about me or like me. The more of that I have in my life and the more interests I acquire to fill my time, the better.

Also success is big. Or maybe even balance. If I have a decent job, little to no debt, I feel a lot better. So I try to get myself in that position or the best position possible and try to never fall back in the previous.

I know exactly how you feel! I still struggle with it and have to push through it. I suppose it is just one of the things I am going to have to deal with.

These are the things I have tried with little to great success:

I go to therapy once a week and have been for about five years now.
I did the DBT group .
I changed all the light bulbs in my house to GE Revealed bulbs. They are full spectrum bulbs which emulates sunshine and you get vitamin D though them. Very good for winter months.
I got a SAD lamp which does the same thing as the bulbs but more intensely. I sit under it for about twenty minutes a day.
I also take anti depressants but I am not sure how effective they are ( I have been on them for years).
I take vitamin D everyday which is said to help with mood.
I try to get some exercise everyday even if its a two or three minute walk up the road. Research is coming out now saying that exercise is more effective for depression and mood than taking anti depressants.
I try to back track the day to see if something or some thought has triggered something in my head which has led to me feeling down. I write down everything. No matter how insignificant it may seem I still write down my thoughts and actions. Sometimes a few little things can lead up to a bigger issue which then leads to feeling down.

I don't know if any of this stuff helps or if it is obvious. I just thought I would write a quick note saying what I do to try to curb my 'down times'. Its a never ending battle for me though!!
Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

I have no idea how to make the clouds go away - I just try to enjoy the little rays of sunshine that sometimes peek through.

when i'm terribly sad, it's normally because people can't seem to give me what i need, and being around people only emphasises my loneliness
this is going to sound completely pathetic and embarrassing but
i get dressed and take myself on a date, wine and dine myself, go and watch a movie after, then go for a walk by myself!

i like doing this, because when i get in a 'state' and go near people, i always do something embarrassing and end up crying in some poor sap's arms

I feel like there's often just too much going on in my head. When I was younger I used music to vent. I'd write lyrics to express these thought and therebye release them.

Just being creative is enough. Now it's creating graphics that I use to feel better. Just making/doing something/anything can take your mind off stuff long enough to remember what it feels like to feel good.

I did this one a few weeks back. I was in a frenzy about something and just started painting until I ended up with this and I felt much better. Nothing special about the pic other than it still calms me.

They're not supposed to give you what you need. You're supposed to give you what you need. Don't rely on other people to fulfill you. I think your idea of dating yourself is a great idea!

"How to make the clouds go away!"

In my experience? Let it rain.

Serious answer.

wish i could help, but as long as i can remeber they have always been in my life. I dont know what "sun shine" would look like. Honestly at this point it prolly aould be ackwared and wierd for me to be happy.

I accept the fact that i will always be in the dark, with no support. So all one can do in that situation is to go on, and be the only person they need, because, for my experience, you can never rely on others they say they will be there for you to support you and help and when u need them they are never there.

So i gess i would advise to not expect the clouds to go away. Find a way to live on with them and make them part of your life. That way if they do go away or if they break up for a bit and let the light in, it will be a nice unexpected event that can bring a positive thing into your life. You also will not be disapointed if they do not break up. Helps prevent more pain.
