What do we do to cope?

Postby Me... Today » Sun Aug 19, 2012 4:36 pm

Hi to all...

I'm sure that so many here know all to well the seemingly uncontrollable gut renching feeling's that come with BPD so I guess what I'm interested to know is what HELPS us? What can we do at the time to help ourselves? I would really love to hear from ANYONE who has found ANYTHING that can help us back into self control?

For me personally, if I'm not already 'too far gone' exercise REALLY help's me. And reading self help. However, if I AM 'too far gone' at the time I have very little I can do, very few coping mechinism's and internal resources I can draw upon at that time.

Would LOVE to hear your experience's and idea's on this one! Regard's.

Not sure if this would be considered coping or not but.... I spend a lot of time alone. I need my family and friends but only in doses. If I am not interested it is difficult for me to stay engaged and focused. People (maybe life in general) tends to overwhelm me/disappoint me.

since drinking, spending and sexing are not the healthiest ways to cope...i'll give you some ones that actually work:

1. social support
2. behavioral activation (doing something that takes your mind off of your trigger/issue)
3. relaxation exercises
4. grounding
5. mindfulness meditation
6. active problem solving
7. control the controllables

Thanks for that...

I tend to do ALL of the above and 1 or 2 of the below!

I'm in the middle of a big fat ugly trigger right now actually (relationship issue as per usual) So i've come home, yes I have poured A single glass of wine and am also going to sit on here for a bit with some relaxation music on until i'm chilled enough to sleep and then a swim first thing I think.
