Hi,

I just watched Girl, Interrupted.

I thought Susanna, played by Winona Ryder, had numerous BPD traits. Lisa, played by Angelina Jolie, didn't have many/any.

Thought I'd better contribute my thoughts as there's been quite few posts on this thread saying otherwise and I think they're inaccurate.

Cheers,

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.
Kate winslet's character just screamed out to me, 'MEEE!' (as in me, Talula).
Of course, she was overblown, but it was eery to see the same sentiments/thoughts/emotions we share.

I also saw Girl, Interrupted. Again, i could relate to Winona's character. Jolie's, not so much. She's sociopathic i assumed. Little empathy. I don't know, not like me at all. But i loved the scene where her and Winona go and sing to the girl that's locked up. :D

Hi Talula,

Yeah, that's a lovely scene in Girl (I also like it when Susanna paints Lisa's toenails).

I really liked Eternal sunshine, but I'll have to watch it again because I can't really remember what happened.

Here's a few more films I think have people in them with BPD traits: Margot at the Wedding, Rachel getting married, Greenberg and 28 days. (Ugh - the things they do make me cringe.)

The best borderline (and one of the best films period) i've seen is, There Will Be Blood.

Daniel Day Lewis won the Oscar for playing the lead character "Daniel Plainview".

An interesting name for the character to be sure, as the character Daniel never had a "plain"view.

The film was also nominated for Best Picture.

I really can't stress how awesome this film was. It's probably one of the top 4 or 5 films released in the last decade. If you don't like this movie........then you just don't like movies.

Hi Twistedmister,

There Will Be Blood was an incredible film - Lewis is a genius. I didn't think he displayed borderline traits though, but it's been a while since I've seen it.

Watch it again. There's certainly a lot of idealisation/devaluation going on.

Fear of abandonment.

Wreckless behaviour.

Identity disturbance.

Chronic emptiness.

Black and White thinking.

I'll grant that the character is a bit more on the sinister side.

( another BPD movie, Party Monster w/Maculay Caulkin and Seth Green)

Out of all those movies, I've only seen Girl, Interrupted.

The character of Lisa seemed sociopathic to me. But then again, a part of me thought she was just putting on an act. The main character who was BPD seemed like a "quiet borderline" because of the lack of rage.

I rewatched There Will be Blood today. What a brilliant film - the score is excellent too. Daniel Plainview does idealise/devalue, but he has more NPD and antisocial PD traits than BDP traits.

thanks so much for holly golightly. a borderline to love and embrace as one of our own. :)

(so much for the rest of the world helping us out with dialectics, huh? all the others are so one-dimensional and hopeless as far as helping anybody understand what it feels like to walk in our shoes)

Re: Best Movie

LisaR wrote:One of the best movies on BPD I have ever seen is American Beauty, with Kevin Spacey, he is dealing with his wifes BPD on a 4 axis stage, he tries to compensate by just taking charge of his own life and living it to the fullest. Good movie by the way.

I never got the impression that the wife in the movie was BPD. Everyone in the film seemed to have their own issues and were acting out in one way or another. Frankly I thought Kevin Spacey's character was reacting more to his desire for jail bait and was expierencing a mid-life crisis. Did the creators of the movie establish that the wife was BPD or did you just pick that up yourself?
