Just curious for no reason at all. HPD and BPD difference...

Postby Skippedbeat » Wed Feb 08, 2012 1:06 am

I havent been able to sleep tonight and when I cant sleep, funny things happen, such as me reading A LOT and I went over to the relationship forum and started browsing around and it soon caught my attention that HPD seems to be a hot topic over there. That made me a bit curious so I started reading.

I do understand that HPD and BPD are both in cluster B and they kinda go in pairs in cluster B right? I think?

But the more I read people's stories, the harder it became to keep the HPD and BPD apart.

I mean, from what I understand, people dont actually have to meet ALL criteria to fit into either one, right? so what happens if you were to cut out the abandonment fear out of BPD?

I hope this doesnt sound completely crazy now, but Ive been playng around with it in my mind, how its possible to add and take away symptoms from both and then they suddenly appear to meet in the middle and blend, so

what are the main BIG differences? Sorry if this sounds weird but I dont know much about HPD and Im posting this here as..... well, Im not sure if the HPD'ers know a lot about BPD and the thread has to go somewhere lol. I just feel more comfy here :D

As far as I know... There's really no good answer for this, and it's something psychiatrists struggle with, too. Some people consider the Cluster B disorders a spectrum just because there's so much overlap.

Thanks for your reply.

I continued reading about it last night and some people have theories of borderline being more intense in emotions while histrionics are more shallow in their emotions.

I do realise however, that for somene who has traits from both, that it would blend more, with someone perhaps having both or maybe one being dominant and having traits of the other.

What I was interested in knowing, is how different the people are who are either BPD or HPD.

Only thing Ive found so far that is very obvious, would be the intense /shallow emotions. However, I cant confirm that as I dont know anyone with HPD and there is a lot of guessing going around in the threads.
