Things That Make Me Feel Safe

Postby mooshoo » Sun Oct 02, 2011 9:39 pm

Things that make me feel safe:

A warm blanket
Hot chocolate
Hot Tea
Sleep
Sitting on top of a heating vent
Reading
The smell of incense
My cat
A kind word from my husband

As far as Maslow goes, I no longer concern myself with thoughts of self-actualization, although I spent many years in search of that. At present I can't even begin to think about growing as a human being. All I care about is safety; finding a tiny piece of safety in this world.
I believe one writes because one has to create a world in which one can live. I could not live in any of the worlds offered to me —
I had to create a world of my own, like a climate, a country, an atmosphere in which I could breathe, reign, and recreate myself when destroyed by living.

I like this! Those things all make me feel safe, too. Here are some things that make me feel safe:

holding a baby
fireplaces
bubble baths
pajama pants
being inside in a snowstorm
curling up on the grass in the sun
weirdly, performing onstage (being someone else for a while)

less so: the security guards skulking around my office at 10:30 on a sunday night. i am still at work. :-(
silence is a text easy to misread

A dog
My bed
My pillows
My family(most of them)
A nice hot shower
Working
Exercising
I smile at your discomfort, for you do not know true pain.

I like this as well. Mine is:

My bed, with lots of pillows and a giant blanket on a cold, sunny Sunday morning.
Watching my favourite uplifting movies while snuggled in bed.
Being hugged and knowing the other person doesn't want to let go.
Lying in the sun on a warm day, with a book and my ipod.
Sitting in my room with my laptop, my bedside lamp on and a warm cup of tea.
Being in a corner, on the floor with my ipod in the dark (only when I'm low).
Talking to Apocallcaps.
My slippers, tights and a giant jumper.
Curling up with my cat, and listening to her pur.
Being told I'm loved.
People I love smiling at me warmly.
Weekdays when my housemates are not home, and I'm all alone tucked up in bed.
Nine Inch Nails.

Oh lovely. I know what I'm doing tonight Tea :P
I need some meaning I can memorize,
The kind I have always seems to slip my mind

I agree with all of you. I can't believe I forgot bubble baths and hot showers. I love warmth, crave warmth. Being cold makes me feel unsafe, but warmth is everything. Oh yeah, fireplaces and being inside during snowstorms (me too). Strangely enough I can also relate to performing on stage, I love it, although for the most part I can't stand to relate to other people.
Sitting in a dark corner is pretty good too.
Thanks everyone, I feel safer just reading what you have written.
I still wish I knew how to use the quote button!

Sitting in a parked car when its raining really hard
Cuddling with someone who likes to cuddle as much as I do
Laying in bed with the covers over my head and my cat under the covers w/me
Watching "The Office" (American version)
Reading or listening to eastern philosophy
Sitting next to a space heater
Being told by someone that they believe in me
Being with friends that I can have silences with that are not uncomfortable, but just chill
Listening to Alexi Murdoch
Doing mushrooms with people I like

Sitting in a parked car in the rain is fabulous. I even love taking a nap in a parked car, although I am aware I probably look a bit odd.
Space heaters, absolutely!
Soft fuzzy blankets and my Snoopy doll. Can you ever be too old to sleep with a Snoopy doll?
Looking at my cat's beautiful face and kissing her on the head.
Eating hot brownies with a glass of milk.
Soft lamp light.

i really like this post and can use a little of this right now.

1) camomile tea
2) heavy blankets, sleeping bags, wrapping up
3) the sound of cats purring
4) having a good cry when i've been holding everything in (may do that now :))
5) my dog (usually)
6) wood fires (fireplaces, wood stoves)
7) (oddly) hot, spicy food (especially korean food or posole with lots of red chili)
8) soup, especially home-made

thanks for the topic. :)
definite fish from space (in a hat. try not to punch me.)
