Our closest family member who eats fruit:

In addition, we examined the effects of variation in captive diets on intake, digesta passage, digestion and behavior. The SFZ gorillas exhibited high digestibility coefficients, and gut passage was long relative to those of smaller-bodied hominoids. The results permit us to understand more fully the relationships of digestive processes to adaptation and dietary flexibility in the wild and to inform the development of dietary recommendations to improve the well-being of captive gorillas

Regurgitation and Reingestion
Remis (2002) noted that among the SFZ gorillas, most regurgitation and reingestion (R & R) occurred during mealtimes, especially in the morning. During the first phase of our study, when the gorillas consumed their normal diet, they engaged inR&Ron average 4.33 times per day during mealtimes and 3.33 times per day when analysis was restricted to the 4 individuals that participated in both study phases. In phase II, when we offered the experimental diet to the 4 subjects, fewer R & R behaviors occurred: on average 1.5 times per day during mealtimes.

And much much more on gut retention, digestion speed etc.

In short, to eat like a gorilla you have to behave like a gorilla. I you want to re-eat your food 3 times per meal be my guest.

We can't digest fruit/raw vegetable matter that well. So for any kind of effect due to the small absorption rate, you'd have to eat really a lot. So much so that your guts would turn inside out and you'd be sick for weeks.
