Oh, yay.. the hallucinations are back...

Postby Lilycat10 » Sat May 21, 2011 3:42 pm

UGH! They've returned again. :( I had someone damage my property a few days ago and I dealt with it very well. I only cried a little and stayed paranoid for maybe 3 hours and then I moved on and got over it. If someone had said something that may have been a rude comment, I would obsess over it for a whole week. More traumatic things don't affect me near as much. So strange.

That night I had strange dreams..nothing bad.. just very magical fantasy type stuff. The following day I woke up and threw up immediately. I've always had an issue with throwing up (not bulimia). I will throw up for no apparent reason and then be just fine. It's probably stress related. Yesterday was stressful because of my friend being late (that's all in another post). I got over it.

Now today.. I woke up, felt okay for about 3 minutes. Then right before I got in the shower I saw bugs on my walls. I KNEW this was a hallucination. I threw up right after seeing the bugs. I looked back and didn't see them anymore. I knew it wasn't there but it still made me nervous. I almost always know when I'm being delusional or hallucinating, yet it still makes me scared. I've heard of people being delusional and stuff but it seems like they always think they're right. That's not the case with me, I always know I'm wrong but still feel afraid. What is that about? Does this happen to anyone else??

I don't see bugs.
I've been known to feel them.

I have these episodes of hearing things, seeing people who aren't there, just for a few seconds (long enough to freak me out of my skull) and things like that.
It's always stress related. I can tell that I'm getting to that level because I start getting headaches and my stomach flips over.
Them I get the flashes, and it just starts happening.

I'm less frightened by it now.
My heart still races, and I'm still scared.
I used to think I was seeing and hearing dead people, which, in itself, is a testament to the number of horror movies I watch in my free time, but these days it just the flashes of people that aren't there that really still freaks me out... because it catches me off guard.
I just have to slow down when that happens. I have to be careful it doesn't happen when I'm driving or something, too. It has once or twice, and there is nothing harder to explain than "Why you swerved to avoid hitting an imaginary person."
Also, nothing sounds more batty...

My best suggestion is to just slow down. When things like this happen, it's usually your mind trying to tell you that you need to slow down and relax. There's too much stress on your brain and it doesn't know how to process what's going on. You should probably also see a doctor, if you're not seeing one already. My shrink gave me xanax for the panic attacks, low dose so I can still function like a human being.

When do you tend to get these hallucinations?
Is there something that triggers them?
What can you do to minimize the triggers?
Why do the triggers get to you in the first place?
Are there things you can do that won't cause the triggers?

If there is nothing causing it and it just happens for no reason, sorry, you're ###$.

That's probably not the case though. Instead of throwing your hands up on the air like, "doh, these darn hallucinations are back for no reason, poor me, poor poor me", try to figure out what's causing the problems and try something different so you don't keep repeating the same hard times. There are very few times in life where it makes sense to go into a pity party. You're just doing things that don't work for you and it's your job to figure it out.

Wow.. thanks a lot! I can't believe how much I related to that. I have swerved MANY times to avoid imaginary animals. It's freaky when I'm alone but when I'm not it's even worse because like you said.. how can you explain that to someone? I usually insist it was really there and they weren't looking to avoid making myself look like a total loon. :X This used to happen to me often but it hardly does now.

Usually a huge amount of stress triggers it. Sometimes there's nothing I can do to minimize the triggers. I don't see anything that triggers the delusions or hallucinations right before they happen. I'll be stressed out and they'll periodically happen throughout the day. I do try to avoid anything triggering but when I'm sitting home and nothing bad is happening and I'm still getting these hallucinations.. I don't know..I'm at al loss sort of. :/ I don't think I need meds because I'm fully aware these things aren't real. I rarely every believe in them for more than 10 seconds.

bugs on the walls? that sounds unpleasant. :(

i dont usually hallucinate, i once "heard voices" under massive amounts of stress tho. apparrently hearing voices or seeing things can happen even to otherwise healthy people when they are under extreme stress, and BPD= a lot of extreme stress. what's worrying apart from seeing bugs being horrible is being under that much stress can't be very good for your physical or mental health. taking meds is your choice, and if its stress-related true, maybe antipsychotics usually used for hallucinations might or might not work - idk. but you still have the choice of asking for something to help with the stress when you need it, i can't imagine seeing stuff like that is very nice, i have had some pretty weird dreams before, so i can imagine. :(

hope you're feeling better soon Lilycat. xox

Thanks sweetie. xo None of it is pleasant but I'm trying my hardest to get better. I fail over and over which is pretty discouraging. :/ I'm trying to work out not telling people about my hallucinations and the way I'm feeling. I go on and on way too much and no one wants to hear it. Maybe it will get better if I stop talking about it all the time. I'm not sure but I'm going to try it.

Oh, Lilycat, *extreme hugs* <3 :(

I don't get hallucinatins, per se. The closest thing was feeling a girl crawling on my spine. It was weird.

I really don't know what to say except try to lessen your stress.

I'm glad I could help.
Like I said, the best advice, when they start, it to slow down. Just stop and breathe and they will stop.
I've noticed that trend. It probably isn't true only for me.
I'm always around if you need me. ^_^

Is hallucinating really part of BPD or something else, like Schizophrenia maybe? I have a hard time believing that a personality disorder can cause hallucinations.
