Youthful skin in BPD/HPD

Postby sunking101 » Wed Feb 02, 2011 2:41 am

My BPD/HPD (female) partner is 29 yet she has the appearance and skin of a teenager. I have seen brief reference to this before but just how widespread is this and what is the theory behind it? She acts (emotionally) like a child and - eerily - has the appearance of one. I was just wondering...

Yeah, it's weird but I've heard anecdotal evidence of this too from those who've dated them.
I'm one myself and have always looked very young for my age, to the point that people can't believe my real age. It always confuses me since i feel very aged inside. Well, imagine, I feel both older than my gran, and yet perenially fifteen too. Both. I do act like a child a lot, i can't lie. I wonder how nons feel about their age? What age do you feel?

Well I'm 39 and feel about 55 lol. I look young for my age but only early 30s, I'm not way off the beaten track like my partner. She genuinely has a baby face and looks around 16 facially, yet she is 29.

Have you met other BPD/HPD people like this or did you just find it curious about your partner?
I also look like a teen. I'm only in my mid twenties but it's also my features that make me look young. Some people just do. Does she realise this about herself or does she find it weird that people see her like this? BPD can make it hard for someone to really see themselves, especially as others do. But that's just me, and she may be different. We aren't all the same after all.

I only have experience of my own partner. She is both very beautiful and strangely youthful looking. She does realise it and people comment on it all the time.

Ah. Yes. How is it? A bit of a crazy relationship then?! Does she get therapy or anything?

No, she's in denial. A truly lovely girl and I'd do anything for her but she thinks, or tells me anyway, that she's fine and the problems in our relationship are all down to me. I have the devaluation, numb emotions, not wanting to see me for days on end, anger over the slightest thing, lack of affection, lying, fan club of male admirers, intense flirting etc to deal with. It's heartbreaking.

Sounds bad. And I'm sure it is heartbreaking. If she's in denial and blaming you for everything, not respecting your feelings, then it's a tough situation. She probably has deep-seated trust/commitment issues. I don't know what to say, other than to respect yourself and not forget that you matter as an individual. You can't change people unless they want to, no matter how much you love them, and even how much they love you. She probably cares for you but doesn't know what a 'normal' relationship looks like, if there is such a thing. (I wouldn't know).
