doctors don't like you to tell them how it is

Postby carrotfairy » Fri Apr 22, 2005 7:20 pm

i'm going to see a new therapist.....again. i'm supposed to go the 28th. i posted the other day about thinking i may have BPD but noone replied. but hey...that's okay (haha). anyway, i was wondering how to break it to him that i think i may have this. i've read a lot of stories about how some docs don't believe in this disorder? that's outrageous. i knew as soon as i read the symptoms that this was me inside and out. in fact, i'm almost relieved because at least now i have something to work with. i almost want to print out all the info i can and take it to him. i don't know if he would be offended but then again this is MY life here and i need big time help whether i offend him or not. i worry so much about offending people but yet i am such a you know what ALL the time. i'm rambling. i'm sorry....
any suggestions about bringing this up to him???

Well, with me I didn't bring up anything, I just described my life and answered their questions. I was 22 and knew nothing about bpd.

I wrote you in the other letter most of my story, but I would just let them observe you, if you are they will see it. Ihope you are not. Not that we are bad people, but it's a journey to find SELf. and that is what bpd really is.

I'm so sorry I didn't see your other letter til today. Every letter is important. ( slappingmyownhandgentlyofcourse).

Well I had the same feeling when I read about BPD. I went to a psychiatrist and she pretty much confirmed that I have BPD but says that my most intense BPD period has passed (I agree to a degree) but the patterns are enduring and I still struggle with it daily and I was still offered lithium which I havnt decided on. I agree that if u are bpd they will eventually figure it out. I initially thought bipolar but wasn't sure. Ended up with a diagnosis of mild adult inattentive ADHD BPD MDD (I knew about the MDD of course). I was also informed that the symptoms for ADHD BPD and depression overlap alot and that's why it took 2 sessions to get to the bottom of it all. Let us know how it goes! Good luck!
