Can antidepressants make you "slower"/foggy?

Postby babybee26 » Mon Feb 08, 2010 7:08 pm

Hey,

I've had experience where antidepressants have made me manic (too high a dose). But I've been on an antidepressant at a lower dose (lowered after the mania) and I feel like I'm foggy and low energy-- not depression episode, in general, for a long time.

Can antidepressants actually make you slower/foggy/etc.? I thought they were supposed to take you "up."

I feel confused about the effect of this antidepressant. I also wonder if I have bipolar or BPD. I've been labeled as having one, then the other, then the one, the other, both, none, one, the other...

If I do only have BPD, I guess the meds shouldn't even be getting taken.

If you're used to having really strong emotions, antidepressants can do that to ya. Talk to your doc.

As I explained in your other thread, Bee, the best way to distinguish one from the other is to figure out whether you are primarily experiencing mood swings (caused by gradual chemistry changes) or, rather, emotional shifts (triggered by events). See borderline-personality/topic46248.html .

This is in the bipolar forum too, yeah?

Anti-Deps and other meds can make you feel blah if you're used to being extreme.
I know how it feels.
It sucks.
Some can adapt, some, like me, cannot and won't take the meds.

You have to pick stability or the range of emotion you're used to...
We all know what I picked!!!!

No. They stabilise. No ups and no downs. To me that felt like not feeling at all. There I was trying to explore my feelings and the anti-depressants seemed to be covering them back up.

I have been on just about every anti-depressant known to man, and now finally with the BPD diagnosis I have been told what I was saying all along... they only make me feel worse.

That is not to say that they are not useful for others. I hate them though.

Yeah like I said, they make me manic out of my mind since I"m bipolar as well...
So... I avoid them
