Just a bit of hope to all in doubt

Therapy is the key, I'm in one and I'm much better now. Still hard sometimes but my life improved a lot so far. I'm actually going back to school thanks to therapy.

I don't know the name of the therapy in english but its specific to borderlines, although it can help other mental illnesses like bipolar.

Heya,

You're the 'new guy' here - Welcome my friend. Is the therapy called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy? It seems to be popular these days for treating a whole lot of syndromes, disorders, conditions, etc.

When you say you're going back to school, do you mean university?

Kevin.

I'm not sure but I think thats what its called.

I'm finishing secondary school first then going to cegep.

Edit - In french its "Therapie dialectique et comportementale", its a relatively new therapy that was invented in the united states I think.

Hi again,

Literally, that translates as 'Dialectical & Behavioral Therapy', which is essentially the same concept as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It is renowned here at least as being the best form of therapy for a lot of mental illnesses. You're lucky that you have access to it because, as I understand, not many people do.

Actually, CBT is indicated for many mental illnesses, but DBT was created to be more specific for borderline. DBT is the therapy of choice for BPD; although it shares some characteristics with CBT, it's approach and application is quite different. I live near San Francisco which is an international center for DBT therapy.

Oh, forgive me, I had no idea that DBT was actually it's own type of therapy. I've never heard of it here but, then again, the Irish mental health industry isn't as well-funded as the American one.

Now that I remember, I tried CBT before DBT but the group fell apart and was canceled because no one showed up to the sessions.

Were the therapy sessions held in a hospital? If so, that's a very bad sign that no-one turned up. They should be forced to go because it is part of their recovery.

I disagree, everyone in that group came into it out of their free will, they shouldn't therefore be forced to go, encouraged yes but forced no.

It was at the hospital. the level of professionalism from the therapists wasn't too great imo.

I was in a DBT group and found it to be extremely helpful. I think it has an excellent philosophy.
