severe insomnia and how is it linked?

Postby KJISNOTOK20004 » Sun Mar 26, 2023 10:05 am

Hi, my name is KJ, I'm new here. I am however not new to my severe insomnia.

I am 18 years old and ever since I was 16, I've been having very frequent episodes of staying awake for, easily, over 2 days at a time. sometimes 3 days, but that happens a lot less often. and by frequently I will use this current episode that I am in as an example... so I went to sleep on Saturday, March 18th at 4am then I woke up at 11am, I didn't go back to sleep until Monday, March 20th at like noon. then not even a week later, on Friday, March 24th I went to sleep at around 2am and woke up 2 hours later. now here I am over 2 days later, and I am still awake!

I get this thing when I don't sleep for a while, where I start to feel like bugs are crawling all over me and biting me everywhere. my sensory issues also get a lot worse by the first day. does anyone else understand what I am talking about???? and if you do, please for the love of everything holy tell me you know why it's happening.

I've not had it to this extent this myself, but wonder have you noticed anything else that might be going on for you at the time? For example when I have had to take certain allergy meds I often feel absolutely wired for as long as I'm taking them. Are there any particular triggers in the days leading up to it that may not be otherwise obvious? Would journalling help to see if there are any patterns happening? They might be patterns over the space of days/weeks/months.

I know my sensory issues are a lot worse when I'm feeling overloaded in any way- if you're not sleeping, I'm guessing that's only going to magnify them, and then add in the anxiety caused by being wide awake and not being able to sleep.

Have you talked with anyone about how severe this is?

I had this exact problem about 3 years ago. My advice would be to get strong sleeping pills. The body starts doing weird things when you don't get enough sleep. Some people get hallucinations from sleep deprivation and hallucinations are not only visual but can be tactile in nature as they were for me. So get sleep and look over your life and see what is stressing you.

Good luck!
