Newly diagnosed; what's DBT like?

Postby Hyde » Sun Jan 07, 2018 9:01 pm

After my trip to a psych ward, they diagnosed me with BPD. I'm not sure what DBT is like, as I'm supposed to be starting that soon.

Also, is it different for minors? I'm an adolescent, so if DBT is different for teens, then I guess if you know anything about "teen DBT", if it's different, it would be helpful. Thank you in advance

I would assume it's no different than it is for adults.

As for DBT...you learn mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness...pretty much everything a BPD struggles with.

I struggled with it as those components seemed so foreign to me and how I was used to functioning but over time it got better as the sessions started to sink in. Learning how to stay in the moment, react accordingly and manage stress is vital to regulating day to day life with BPD.
