Seroquel and venlafaxine advice please

Postby Goth_Rainbow » Sat Sep 13, 2014 8:27 am

Hi question for anyone on seroquel
Does it have any sexual side effects?
Been on a few meds this last few years and my sex drive has been up and down.
Been on seroquel nearly 3 weeks and so far only had delayed orgasm
I'm due to increase in a couple of weeks.
Also I'm tapering off venlafaxine I'm down to 37.5 mg nowand so far I haven't been crippled by it read so many horror stories biggest withdrawal effect I have is the flu type feeling cold achey bones, anyone else have this and if so how long did it last for?
Sorry if I posted in wrong place but couldn't find anywhere else
Thanks xx

Tapering off something shouldn't cause withrrwwals the way coming straight off something should. You should maybr discuss any concerns you have with whoever prescribed you the medication.

While I have some serious issues with this site because it refuses to let PwBPD talk on their boards because they don't consider BPD a physiologically-based disorder that can be helped by medication, which is definitely is, this is a pretty good resource for all stuff meds.

http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage

I've used it a lot because I like to research anything I decide to take.

Let me know about your experiences with an anti-psychotic. My old psychiatrist and pretty much everyone else has told me that the side effects aren't worth the possible benefits it might give me. But AP's are considered a common option for treatment of BPD.

I'm going the mood stablizer route but because lamictal is affected by estrogen and I'm on birth control and my shrinks are afraid of the crazy rash and have titrated me slowly, I'm not yet at a particularly effective dose. Hoping it will help a bit.

What makes you think there aren't other options for you? There are a lot of different AP's and many different "mood stablizers" on the market. Also, while I've stopped taking it in favor of another med and it made me sweaty and anxious, I was helped a bit by the anti-depressant that I'm coming off now. There are a few different options.

But DBT/ general therapy is also important. Just harder.

Hi,

I've been on seroquel for six years now, along other medications and it has been great for me, it helped me alot on my mood and it has been great for me as an anti psychotic medication. I have been on a 300mg daily, i didn't have any sexual side effects. The side effects i get is that i sleep alot, when i wake up im like a zombie and also the weight gain, but that can get controlled.

Thank you! :)

It's hard to believe that the right med is out there when you've tried so many. I can completely understand that. But brain cootie drugs usually involve process of elimination. People with major depression often take a long time to find the right drug for them because anti-depressants are so variable.

Therapy with definitely help and is a big part of coping with BPD. I really wasn't looking forward to going back to therapy initially, but I've learned over time that it really does help.

Thank you I do agree and understand why they put you on so many before one works I'm down to 37.5 venlafaxine now got less than a week left on it before I go up on my seroquel, can't wait for therapy as hard as it will be needs doing now! X
