It is interesting that you ask this right now. I went to an Al-Anon meeting today, and the reading we had dealt with the exact meaning of the phrase "to take offense." We willingly take offense. We don't have to have it. For me this is really true. If I don't want to take distressing action, I don't have to. It's my choice. I just need to remember to ask myself, "Is it really worth it?" I am finding that if I "Let Go and Let God," God does take care of it.

Last week I had to go to a meeting that I knew would be draining. It dealt with a very controversial matter, and there were just as many people "for" and "against." The meeting was not to exceed 60 minutes. I gave my viewpoint during the first 10 minutes. I continued to listen for 45 of the 60 minutes before I decided that, if I stayed any longer, I would start raising my voice and getting ugly. So, I opted to leave quietly. Later in the day a colleague said, "Man, after you walked out, people sobered up. The entire group came to a solution by the end of the 60 minutes." All I could think was that I really had nothing to do with it. I Let Go, and God worked the rest. It was amazing.

That makes sense, so walk away, but what I mean is bpd rage. Ourbursts many call them. If I walked away, I'd punch a wall. see? I'm afraid that would lead to a pecking order............

Has anyone heard of things like throwing popcorn at the t.v. e.g. things like that. With bpd is hard to stop and count to 100. I see red and can't even think 1, 2 let alone the rest.

Outburst are far and few between , usually from holding it in so long, as were taught to do as children . or else.................

What has worked for you?

I have a friend who has a bad temper - more like narcissistic rage than BPD rage. He chugs a 16 oz. glass of ice water. He swears by it. Perhaps because it cools and shocks his system. Perhaps the ice cold releases endorphins. If you try it, let me know how it works.

I will try that.......thanks.

I bet there are countless ways of coping and stopping the madness, so to speak.

I think this topic will help many of us.

One thing I do is punch a pillow. But boy cleaning up the feather afterwards is a beaatch.

i have always had an especially hard time identifying what will help me when i am in a rage. i have tried various things that haven't helped at all. and only recently i have found that what really helps me is getting away from it all for just a few minutes. like running around the block until all of the excess energy has burned off.

i just put on my shoes and run out the door. just leave everything behind for a little while. just pretend that it has all gone away for a moment and i don't have to deal with it right now.

when i come back i am usually tired and out of breath and i have no energy to scream or destroy things or rage up and down through the house. i am able to sit down and calm myself. it doesn't always work perfectly. but it works for me.
