Topamax

Does anyone with BPD have any experiences with topamax or any other mood stabilizer that they'd care to share?

I'm on inpatient atm and they were getting desperate so they took me off of all antidepressants and put me on this and seroquel. The combination seems to be working quite well but life also seems to be turning around(new bf, moving out). I'm unsure as to whether the medication or life looking up is to blame.

I was on Seroquel for a good 4 years at 600mg. It was the most stable I ever got but I couldn't tolerate the drowsiness. I'd fall asleep during the day constantly which in turn would affect my mood when I didn't get enough sleep. I think it's entirely possible that the meds are helping; they would've been great for me if it weren't for the side effects.

Seroquel really helps me with my paranoia and actually fills the void somehow. It's just my moods swings are really worrisome and they've landed me in hospital and I really want to know if the mood stabilizer is actually working.

How long have you been on Topamax? Some meds work really quickly, personally I'm not sure about Topamax. My recommendation is to be vigilant but not obssesive. I've crossed that line far too many times when I've ended up in the hospital for mood swings. It's really hard when you want to know whether to expect this in the future, but unfortunately I'm learning there isn't always a good answer. It usually takes a lot of personal experience and a trained professional who's seen this sort of thing before to help walk you through whether or not it's helping. Just be as patient as you can be, as hard as that is. I guarantee it will help you in the long run.

I'm on Topamax, prescribed as an anti-psychotic. It's primarily to keep me from going loco out on the road, as I have PTSD stemming from a major crash a few years back. For the most part, it seems to be working. It didn't work last week, but the lady ran me right off the freeway (I was on my motorcycle), so I don't think there's enough Topamax in the world to counter that kind of emotion!
