Hi! my name is Michela, I'm 23 (24 next July) and I live in Milan. I study psychology and I'm going to graduate next september (so I hope!). The subject of my thesis is about different kinds of behaviour which people with/without a diagnosis of BPD act against their own body, like self injury, drugs abuse, eating disorder (in particular the latter). I would like to understand which feelings, emotions, experiences, impulses bring so many people to hurt themselves and suffer so much. I know that I will never find it in any book or article, because I'm sure that only people who struggle against this every single day can really teach to others what does it mean. so, if there is someone of you who would let me know what no one else can even imagine, I would really thank! I let you my email address too: mipozzi@gmail.com your words will just make me closer to what I'm studyng by a theoretical point of view, making my thesis surely closer to reality. thank you all, anyway! If I can be of any help to someone, just let me know! Love! Miky

Michela,

I am also a Psych. major and it is my understanding that the "cutting and self harm" are all about control as well as trying to dull the emotional pain by inflicting physical pain. Hope this helps. If you haven't already done so, instead of doing a search on a particular disorder, try doing a search on "self mutilation". You may have better luck finding something. There are may web sites out there that individuals tell their stories on and that may also be a source of help.
