I have had bad experiences with some professionals too. Especially those who have no real knowledge of BDD. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence in their treatment! I think sometimes, they are trying to show a different way of looking at things, and probably want to help, but it ends up backfiring and adding to the anxiety of someone with BDD.

I suspect your psychologist was trying to get you to accept that you're average looking like most people.

As looks are subjective, he/she is obviously aware and doesn't want to disillusion you by telling you're gorgeous and flawless when the bast majority of us are imperfect and plain.

In my experience people who are conventionally unattractive are at peace with their looks and are a lot happier because they accept the way they look. They're the ones posing in ever photo and never single.

Men do not chat up women who are ugly. Men do not chat up women out of pitty - why would they waste their time!? Men talk to me in bars and they always say to me “btw I’m not chatting you up” or “you know I’m not hitting on you right” and I’m like duh I might be ugly but I’m not stupid! Lol Men chat you up becasue they find you attractive. You have a boyfriend, becasue he finds you attractive! I don’t have a boyfriend and I don’t get chatted up. I have been told by my therapist that I don’t have bdd so when I said can you help me accept I’m ugly then she just said “no, becasue ugly is just an option and people are entitled to their options” You sound more like you do have BDD. Get a second opinion.
