New to medication

Postby Brielle17 » Sat Oct 27, 2012 4:17 am

Hi I've just started Escitalopram. How are your guys experiences with these? Or with other meds you've had near the beginning of your diagnosis?

I've been having something like a mixed episode and was put on this for my depression and to help my raing thoughts.

Hi hon

The first thing I want to say is keep a close eye on your mood as unopposed antidepressants can cause problems in BP - having said that I am sure your Dr has thought carefully about what to give you. Just watch your mood tho. In terms of what to expect I have not been on it tho have been on something similar and I noticed changes within about 3 weeks - it does take some time for that type of AD to kick in. Trying drugs esp initially can be scary so keep note of how you react and if you are concerned or something does not seem right then go back to the Dr. Having said that hopefully everything will be OK for you. Good luck :D

Hugs

I was on this a long time ago. It wasn't helpful to me. I really don't remember much about it other than the fact that I was on it and I still felt severely depressed. Though for me I haven't had success with ANY antidepressant (and trust me I've been on A LOT of them). Most anti depressants, like Cracked said, can take 3-4 weeks to begin kicking in so hang in there in the mean time.

I can't take antidepressants. I tried a bunch and all they seemed to do was make me extremely anxious and/or suicidal.
