hallucinations can occur in a seriously depressed or manic state... if u are neither, u may be schizophrenic or schizoaffectiv (a middleground of the two illnesses)

: Hallucinations?

Hallucations some times occur with bipolar in cases of extreme mania. As the last poster said hallucations are more common with schoitophia and a mixture of the two illnesses

I have heard of other BPs experiencing hallucinations and have experienced them, myself... but think this may have been med-induced (in my case).

I think hallucinations may be present in bipolars, but are not as common as other symptoms. I did not have any hallucinations, but I did have a large number of delisions. I would be interested to see just how many bipolars have hallucinations. I wonder if one gets mostly hallucinations or mostly delisions (I used to think I was Jesus).

I am bipolar (rapid cycler) When I'm depressed I'm suicidal. I have the same hallucinations over and over when I start to dip or go up. I see bugs and worse sometimes I feel bugs crawling on me. Sometimes I will see a glimpse of a "person" in my home. The bug thing can last for days, the person thing is only seconds. I think I take Abilify for that, but not consistently. I makes me feel very spaced out. But it helps and its better than roaches crawling on ones skin. I dont have to be full blown either end of the pole to see things though. Sometimes they just happen.

Weed for many is considered an Hallucinogen. That means it will most likely cause hallucinations (although it depends on each person). If you already have hallucinations, have bipolar, another mood disorder or psychotic disorder, or are afraid of having hallucinations, stay away from drugs. Trying to "feel a bit happy" by smoking weed isn't a good idea; it doesn't out weigh the possibilities.

And on a side note, depression can also have symptoms of hallucinations (Psychotic Depression), even without weed.

I have hallucinations both visual and auditory when in psychosis, that is when they bring on the antipsychotics. Usually this is during mania, or med withdrawl. Paranoia overlaps it.

I recently read an article on the web , whether it is clinically true I can't say, but it said that mj can cause psychosis in the bipolar individual. I think it meant a habitual user, not just smoking a joint.

schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders might be a trouble causer here, otherwise. In this case conversations can take place, or seem to , such as a voice telling you to do something.

Delusions are much different than hallucinations. Delusions are false beliefs, rather than a manifestation of false images or sounds. Bipolar can cause delusions of grandeur, one of the main sx's of bipolar.
