BP and Parenting

Postby haskettedu » Mon Aug 06, 2012 2:23 am

I only have one child. Thank god. Some days I just can't DO it. I let him play video games and I hardly engage with him and it isn't fair to him. I have such a hard time keeping him on a schedule because I can't even keep my head straight. My bipolar makes me feel like a terrible parent...

I have a son, he is seven and sometimes I don't connect with him. You can't think you're a terrible parent because of that. Someday my son just wants to play video games.

What I do, and this had helped our relationsghip is I make it a priority to make sure one day each wekk we go out, To the local playpark, the supermaket, walk to town to look in shops. We always watch UFC and Boxing together.

Somwetimes we both just slob around the house. One other thought is when I am really ill family will have him for the day. Not to protect him or anything just because that is all it takes for me to pull myself together.

None of that makes me a bad parent.

You are not a bad parent, a bad parent wouldn't typed what you have. Trust me, as a teacher I have seen BAD parents and what you have described is nowhere even close.
