COFFFEEEEE!!!!

Postby InRainIFly » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:58 pm

ok so for the last week or so i've been REALLy hypomanic. i don't normally drink coffee that offten maybe around 4 times a week is the most I ever really have it but hardly ever that much. And ESPECIALLY when i'm like this, i mean it's not like i need the kick from caffiene or whatever. Anyway that's beside the point. Chai ftw! :P

The reason I'm posting this is cause today I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in forever and got talking then we ended up going to a cafe. I had a small cappucino and omg it hit me like a train. already before i could barely sit still and stop myself moving around and fidgeting like nuts and all that - i don't have to explain you all know what it's like! oh and before the cafe my friend had jokingly asked if i was on crack or something, lol that must say something. BUT after the coffee all this was like suddenly 20x worse, and to the point where i was talking so fast i kept doing things like messing up my words and stuttering and saying parts of my sentences ahead before i had said the rest then juumping to another topic then realising and going back to what i was saying so i had my friend completely confused and a bit freaked out. it was a damn good thing for both of us i then had to go to work or no matter how much i wanted to stay and talk i would have had to find a way to escape. this has all gradually got a less now thank godness.

Anyway my point is that is was so sudden and dramatic and intense like nothing that has ever happenned to me before, i just find it weird that i would have reacted like that cause it's not like I had heaps of caffiene at all it was only a small cappucion. i mean ive heard it's good to avoid caffiene but is this the reason why?

So,, I'd be really curious to know if anyting like this has happenned to you before? or if anybody who reads this happens to know anyting else interesting or relevant to do with caffiene i'd definately be interested to hear it!

But who knows, they probably just spiked my coffee. lol

I'm kind of jealous :( Coffee doesn't effect me at all!!!

I could drink 10 cups a day and it still wouldn't do anything lol

I used ot think coffee did not touch me then got more insight into it and realised that it does - tho not to the extent it seems to affect you. I would suggest that you avoid it for now as it sounds like you are really quite sensitive to it and it is likely not doing you any favours.

Hope you are doing OK now

Why are some people really sensitive to the effects of coffee and others aren't at all? :S

Not sure - maybe it is to do with whether you grew up drinking it - I did so maybe I am more "used" to it. Or maybe it is to do with caffeine receptors?

I guess I have drank a lot of coffee since about the age of 12, so that MAY have something to do with it

Alcohol on the other hand, affects me hugely!

I was told by my Pdoc to avoid it totally, even trace amounts. It's tough being Scottish and not being able to drink Iron Bru, torture I tells ya!

So I gave up Caffine and I gave up Alchohol too (and smoking too) all within a week. It's done me the world of good, when i was hypomanic I used to drink loads of caffiene, not just coffee but energy drink and pro plus, anything that would keep me going. Looking back I think it was making me far, far worse.

I'm not saying to anyone to take as drastic measures as I have taken but I will say that it has helped me a lot.

Just to clarify I think the weird thing is that normally caffeine does not affect me so much. I generally drink three or four cups each day without any adverse effects. But when I'm manic that changes and the smallest amount makes me even more high. I'm drawn to it then because I enjoy the effect
