I just posted a similar message elsewhere and many of you probably know or have experienced this, but a lot of the typical meds for depression and anxiety can not be used for people with bipolar. A decade ago when I first began getting treatment docs weren't as aware of this. I think it's well known now by most docs, but just in case anyone isn't aware, certain meds (in certain categories - like zoloft and prozac) can actually severely worsen bipolar symptoms (even induce extreme mania/psychosis). I just want to make sure people are aware of this potential side effect, especially those who are newly diagnosed. It may not affect everyone the way it has me, but my reactions to these drugs just validated (for my doctor) my diagnosis as bipolar, because this reaction to these types of meds is not uncommon with bipolar patients.
