I'm a medical student who is confident to say that there's 80% chance my mother has bipolar disorder. I was searching online for the diagnostic criteria and realized there'r forum like this which probably can give me a bit of insights. It's always hard for an insider to deal the situation eventhough a medical student should know enough from the book.
My mother has recently been referred to a psychiatrist by her employer becasue she has not been acting as an emotionally stable individual at her work place after two years of working there.
As a daughter, eventhough I had suspection of her illness, I was not able to make her believe me since parents are always more superior in my culture.
She is a very articualted individual who has made the psychiatrist to believe she was just in slight depression because of family pressure--she believes that her family, ie us, are not treating her kindly enough, nor has her been treated fairly at her work place. The psychiatrist did not ask for a follow up appointment--this is probably better off for her, or else she will get fired if she has been diagnosed by the psychiatrist referred by her company.
HOWEVER, she does need help. How can I make her to get help if she doesn't believe she has any problem? She knows how to lie her true situation to doctors so she will never seem to have any problem unless noticed by someone who deals with her daily. I need advice PLS! Thnx.
