My girlfriend's seroquel prescription is out in 6 days...

Postby jacobmarshall » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:21 pm

So, I've been seeing someone for a little over a month. She has bipolar ii, and has been on Seroquel for about 5 years now.

She had an appointment today to see her doctor, or at least she thought she did; her doctor is out of town, and won't be able to see her for 6 weeks. Her Seroquel runs out in 6 days. She's with her family now, in Montanta (where her doctor would be if she wasn't on vacation), while I'm stuck in Oregon where we both live. Her family is no help (abusive father, alcoholic mother) and she's already been seriously depressed there. She's saying she's given up, that there's no hope, and that for someone to go off that much Seroquel is a good way for them to commit suicide.

I don't know what to do. She was going to come back today or tomorrow, after her appointment, but there are even fewer options for her to see someone quickly here than there are where she is now and she can't see how she'll get in to see someone on such short notice. I've never dealt with bipolar before, I've had trouble keeping her together on medication; I've told her that she can come here, and I'll be here for her and help her and keep her from hurting herself, but I've had trouble helping her stay together while on her medication.

I'm at my wit's end. I love this girl so much and she's bringing up suicide. If anyone has any ideas, any at all, please help. Please.

The pharmacy should be able to call the doctor and request a refill. Or she can call the doc and ask for a prescription to be called into the pharmacy. No good doc would let her just go off cold turkey without treatment. Worst case scenario is the emergency room.

I agree, if you can't get a new prescription then it's the emergency room. We're always told that if you have suicidal thoughts that you may act on then go to the emergency room. The withdrawal from seroquel is pretty terrible too. She will feel flu like symptoms, nausea etc. She may even get catapulted into hypomania/mania rather than worsening depression. I did when I went cold turkey, for about 4 days, all the while feeling absolutely retched and complete insomnia for a week. It's not good. She needs medical attention. If someone had run out of their heart medication then we'd have no qualms about taking them to the emergency room. It's just as serious for her if she's suicidal. Can you ask her to go? Or somehow be with her? They will surely be able to give her an emergency supply. Hope it goes well for you both.
