SEROQUEL Gained 100 POUNDS!

Postby usagold100 » Sat Feb 09, 2008 5:53 pm

I've gained more than 100 pounds since starting 400mg of Seroquel about one year ago.

Could I reduce the dosage to help me lose some weight?

I noticed in the past when it was reduced it made me very very nauseated.

Can someone help me with this?

I suggest that you speak to your doctor about this. Personally, I have no experience with Seroquel. Also, never self-medicate yourself - that can lead to so many problems.

They never seem to tell us about these side effects. I also gained 100 pounds from the mixture of medications that doctors had me on. I eventually lost the weight. On my web side I wrote an article about how to lose weight. Hint: I did a lot of exercise which also really helped my depression an anxiety.

Good Luck,

Weight Loss

Postby Forgiven » Wed Feb 13, 2008 5:02 pm

Wow - That is really suprising to me about the weight gain with Seroquel. I have been on it for almost 6 years, have lost over 100 pounds and Serouquel is being studied as a weight loss drug!

My Pdoc recomended it to me years ago while we were switching around the cocktail of pills I take and he asked me if there were any other concerns and I said I was tired of being fat. So, he told me about his findings with Seroquel.

It took a while to work, but with various combinations over the years I have managed to pull off 100 pounds without any diet or exersise other than having a small amout of anorexia now and hten and I am a big gal so I can afford some of that! HA!

My Pdoc has told me he has had to pull some of his patients off of Seroquel after a year or so because they simply lost too much weight and were at a border line of where he should take them off of them.

We all know pills can react differently with other people, but I would check with your doctor again about your weight gain problems with this.

Hope you find an answer. 8)

I have taken it for 4 years. I noticed I developed a sweet tooth.
(Before I was never drawn to candy, desserts, anything like that)

I told my psych right away, and he informed me that it can make you a diabetic. So we watch my blood glucose/sugar, closely.

I was never heavy or thin just average and now I have to work at keeping the weight off. Don't know if this is age related or seroquel.

Lost weight?

You're the 1st person, in person or online, I've spoken to who claims to have lost weight while taking Seroquel.

I wish I had your reaction!

You must be taking a low dose?

kid you not

Postby Forgiven » Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:35 pm

I kid you not about the weight loss and my results from Seroquel!!

My Pdoc is one of the leading Psychiatrists in the US and even stands on the head of the Board for the state of which I live. He is well respected and top notch.

I am on 150mg Seroquel
4 mg Klonopin
150 mg Triliptel
100 Topamax

And I am one up and down person who is very stable right now. I can't believe that nobody has lost weight. Maybe it's the combo of pills that I take. I am very sensitive to many, many medications and this is what I have to stay in the relm of.

I hope you can all find help with weight loss, worked for me. I too have the sweat tooth and only monitor my blood sugar as my husband is diabetic so I prick my finger once in a while to test it.

Topamax is well known to cause weight loss because it makes food taste terrible. It's called taste perversion, you're trained to desire food less and less because it tastes terrible; therefore you end up eating less food while not being aware of it. I'm sure you haven't noticed any changes in your diet but that is exactly what one would expect with Topamax.

At one time I took Topamax at high doses for 9+ months and lost nearly 75 pounds. I had to stop taking the topamax because it literally made me stupid, unable to find words while speaking, unable to do simple math etc.

I do not doubt you are losing weight.

seroquel was awful for me. the first time around i was on 100 mg twice daily. i think i gained 25-30 pounds in a month.

more recently, my pdoc tried me on a lower dose (25-75 mg) to help me sleep. omg, the carb cravings were fierce. i felt like and eating/sleeping trainwreck. they all went away once it cleared out of my system.

definitely talk to your md- there are better options for you out there.

You are saying the reduced seroquel, 25mg, made you gain weight as much as the Higher doses?
