Hey psytrip,
First of all, bipolar has mood episodes in which you can have psychotic symptoms. So your mood is not always affected when you have bipolar disorder. Only during these mood episodes where you're feeling elated or irritatible (manic) or sad, empty (depressed) do you experience psychotic symptoms. In between these episodes, everything could be perfectly normal.
That said, if you feel you have occasional hallucinations and no related mood swing during such an episode, it makes sense that you don't agree with your diagnosis. A good thing to do is describe accurately what you are experiencing.
You tell your psychiatrist: hey, I read up on my diagnosis, but I'm confused about the mood episodes. I don't think I experience those. I just have periods in which I experience psychotic symptoms. Could it be that I'm actually experiencing something else ?
I don't have many details about how you hallucinate or when or for how long or how often, but psychosis can be triggered by sleep deprivation, drugs, and stress as well.
Otherwise you could be dealing with schizophrenia or schizoaffective (though this one has mood episodes as well, so you can skip that one). There are plenty of things that psychosis is a symptom of, you just need to be honest about your concern but not aggressive about it.
So don't say "I think you're wrong". Say: "I have not experienced this symptom of my diagnosis, is that right or should we look at other explanations ?"
Good luck and hope you get the help you need.
