Do these symptoms sound familiar?

Postby Tany9299 » Tue Dec 31, 2019 9:24 pm

Hi all. I am new to this site. I am in between therapists so I was looking for some online support, but my new topic is actually for my boyfriend. He’s having these random episodes of anger, and everything Ive researched sounds like a mood disorder to me, but I’m not sure. So He’s always had a kind of anger issue. Not violent, but just has a quick temper, and if he gets mad his whole day is usually ruined and it’s ruined plans we’ve had because he wants to be alone. Pretty much that he can’t control his emotions what so ever. Normally he’s very organized, energetic, he runs a lot, 6-7 miles every other day, eats very healthy. He has an autoimmune thing so he has to be on top of his health. But something I said randomly made him upset, so he didn’t come home for 3 hours, threatened to sleep in his car that night. That lead into a 2 day drinking binge and he was messaging a friend and has done so with his sister, just attacking them verbally, saying the meanest things, just lashing out. I found him home in the afternoon sleeping when he should have been at work. He then told me he wanted to end things. Only in the same night, after he calmed down, took it back, and then went right back to normal. It’s like the flip of a switch. He’s told me he has self esteem issues and trust issues. Which clearly. But I don’t know if it’s something therapy can fix or if it’s a bipolar symptom? And medicine might be needed. Has anyone had any symptoms of just unexplained anger and not being able to pull yourself out of it?

Binge drinking as a coping mechanism is not normal behavior and would be my first 'red flag'. Has this happened before as a way to cope with emotions? Can you see a pattern here?
Best of luck to you. :D
