I have a question but first let me explain. I have had hypomania and one manic phases before.
Recently, after a 4 month severe depression, I had my first episode of mania vs hypomania episode. I’m not sure. But I don’t remember much. Just what my family said. It last about 10 days. I remember the rapid thought process. Them talking a hundred miles a minute. I got upset with my grown daughter which never happens. I was devastated. The days that followed I don’t remember. My husband said I talked so fast, made no sense. When asked a question I could not clearly articulate what I was trying to say. I would be off to myself talking like I was talking to someone. I didn’t eat much. I didn’t sleep much. I was mean. I don’t remember anything. After 2 weeks I’m still in a brain fog. Now I’m very tired. Sometimes I can sleep. Sometimes I can’t sleep at all. Sometimes I still feel a little manic. I can be both up and down in same day.
The question? My psychiatrist is sending my to neurologist to rule out dementia or any other neurologist disease. So of course I am so freaked. Is this out of the
Ordinary?

It is normal for the pdoc to rule out anything else. I got my thyroid checked when I had severe depression first before I was put on medication.

Ok now I know a little more. I’ve been seen. My family more involved and us more educated.
I do have a question. As you know from what I said I was severely depressed for 4 months, then
With a snap of a finger I went into manic with psychotic phase. I had hallucinations. Couldn’t speak coherently. Spoke nonstop. Didn’t sleep. Apparently as I was coming out I lived in the fog so I basically lost several weeks of my life. When I got through it my psychiatrist had me see a neurologist to rule out
Dementia. That was brutal thinking I was going to die. It’s bad enough living with this disease. Ok that’s enough.
Question: I have gone directly into hypomania and the powers that be say can easily go right back into manic phase. So now I’ve been told to basically rest, low key, quiet, sleep, medication—-all the day medication.
Is this your experience or have you heard this? What do you know?

Yes, for me, that has been some of my experience. Several times in my life. And yes, do what they tell you about resting and getting proper sleep. Take your meds. I am very good about sleeping well, even if it means taking a sleep aid at times. I need to sleep. No sleep can and does trigger episodes.

Have you been told not to drive while you are hypomania when you just came out of a manic with psychosis phase. I’m still confused

No, I've not been told that, but in my own opinion, it just makes sense. I wouldn't drive.
