I was diagnossed with bipolar 11 with schyitzo tendencies. I see my therapist once a week, and my med Dr once a month I when I started out on meds I went h a whole slough of meds, you name it I was on it.eAfter many failed medications I seemed to be responding well to seroquel. But the side affects were extreme I gained 50 LBS and just slept and ate around the clock. And was then diagnosed with diabetes, and put on insulin. Over several years I lost the weight and stopped eating and sleeping all the time. it did however control my mania and paranoid deiusions, I still had depresion and 50 mg of zoloft was addded and this did the trick. I have been stable and it has been fantastic,my Dr now holds my diagnoses as being in remission. And I am so glad I stuck with the seroquel. As well my diabetes is in remission.

Risperdal made me gain 100 pounds in four months. The next med my doc put me on was Geodon, and I've been on it since. It puts me to sleep real quick, but I'm not sleeping around the clock like I was on Risperdal. Risperdal literally made me sleep 18 to 20 hours a day, and trying to work a job on that wasn't easy.

Seroquel helped me sleep in the past with terrible insomnia when all sleeping meds tried failed. I took it in small doses of 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg. It would knock me out. I stopped taking it (with doctor's permission) and my mania bouts ended. And I could sleep too. It was a temporary thing, to take it.
