Anyone tried Vraylar?

Postby goaskmyalias » Tue Nov 27, 2018 11:06 pm

After being off meds for 2 years (had problems w side effects and/or they stopped working), i finally decided to try medication again. This time my psychiatrist prescribed vraylar, 1.5 mg. After 3 weeks, i realize i was pretty much psychotic to one degree or another 24/7 for the past 2 years.
The last antipsychotic i was on was latuda. I started uncontrollably clenching my jaw, biting my lips/tongue. My dr tried all the side effect meds but i either could not tolerate them or they did not work.
The vraylar makes me chew my lip & do funny things w my tongue some but it is minor. I am on artane 5 mg. 2x/day and that eliminates the problem.
I realize this is the first time this time of year that i am not experiencing a mixed episode. I am also able to complete things a little better than before.
I notice i am a little jacked up & minorly confused for a while in the am after taking vraylar, but that goes away. Aside from that, i feel pretty good the rest of the day. I am actually sleeping at night but not sedated. And no weight gain or restlessness. I also suffer from severe migraines but oddly have not had one in 3 weeks.
I am happy to be doing better but at the same time i feel afraid. I have had a few glimpses of sanity over the years. Periods where i functioned well. But then it all fell apart. Meds would stop working and my life fell apart. I am just afraid that the vraylar is temporary. I have tried every med under the sun and while i had periods of stability, it eventually always fell apart.
Just wanted to share and am curious to know if anyone else has tried vraylar and what their experience with it was.

I started on the low dose of vraylar, then I had it increased to 3mg. Now a few years later, I take 6mg and it works fantastic. I used to take abilify and yes, that did have me gaining weight, without a shadow of a doubt. For some it works just fine, for others like myself, not so much...

I hope vraylar continues to work for you like it has worked for me. I do know how you worry. I have felt that way as well.

I take Vraylar. I was on Seroquel and I hated it. It made me feel like I was moving through Jello and I was working at night and I couldn't take it and be awake on the job so I just quit taking it and when I told my Pdoc he flipped out. Almost everything I tried sedated me to the point of being incoherent. He finally tried Vraylar and it works great. I take 6 mg./day I don't know why I do this, but I get it in my head that I need to quit my meds occasionally....well when I tried to quit taking my Vraylar, after about 4 days I felt like I was going to jump straight out of my skin, so I started taking it again and I feel much better. I haven't gotten off of it again.
