Valproate/Ergenyl and dopamine block?

Postby bobo77 » Sat Oct 13, 2018 10:14 am

Hi!

After many years on different SSRI meditations I haven’t found any medication that has worked real good for my depressions, except lamotrigine, but I had to stop it after a skin reaction. I´ve tried at least 20 different medications over the last 12 years.

My latest doctor have followe me the past 3 years and have now two paths he would believe explain my conditions and why earlier medications hasn´t worked properly. He think I´m either light bipolar, or have signs of ADHD, either alone or in combination.

I got prescribed Valproate 600mg to be taken at night. But I read that it blocks dopamine D2 receptor. If it would turned out I have ADHD signs instead of bipolar, wouldn’t it be wrong medication to block dopamine instead of raising it? Is it possible to reverse the block with bupropion/voxra or other meds?

Does the block means total block or is it dose dependent?

I don't know the answers about your medication and how they can work against each other. I'd ask your pdoc, they should know. But I have Bipolar I plus add to that ADD. I became stable on Bipolar meds. My biggest problem was depression, but with Lamictal and an antipsychotic, Vraylar (I took Abilify for years and that worked too),it was fixed. I noticed I would have some fluctuations in mood at times that would occur at times, but it was not a problem. Well, I have the symptoms for ADD, and I mentioned it to him. Once we had me stable, I took Ritalin and it worked wonders for my mood! So, yeah it's possible to have both at the same time. Or yes, one or the other alone too...How are you now?
