What do your mixed states feel like?

Postby Son » Tue Oct 09, 2018 6:19 pm

I think I'm entering a mixed state...a. slight one. I feel like I can't sleep enough... 12 hours a day/night and yet I still feel fatigued and sleep deprived. But I also feel agitated and revved up and slightly irritable at moments. I can't concentrate and stop myself mid-thought/mid-movement to do something else. I spent this morning rocking out to music and pacing and now I want to move somehow... be physical, go somewhere, journey, adventure. I am sooooo restless and have no clue what to do with myself.

So anyways, does anyone relate to this? How do you describe this feeling?

Sure, I can relate very well.

Have very similar states. Except I usually get less sleep, like 5-6 hours.

Im now forcing myself to stay in bed longer though, relax and also force myself to have breaks where I do nothing or something very relaxing (reading a novel, watching TV, listening to relaxing music or do PMR)

Still, for the extra energy boiling inside, I do a bit of sports, not very long but something straining the muscles, like boxing or circuit training, with breaks inbetween

When nothing helps, I take a lorazepam or sthg else.

still looking out for other ways to deal with these phases though. Are they pleasant to you?

Best of luck to you.

How are you doing now?

Was it a mixed state or something else?

During my mixed states I have so much anxiety I can't sleep well, or much at all. My mind races and I can't concentrate so I do pace back and forth. Sitting still is hard for me during this episode and I can't find relief so I usually go like 2 weeks like this and then I somehow become suicidal. I am prone to becoming suicidal when I get a mixed episode so I have to call the pdoc right away so I don't act on that.

Thanks for the replies Bernhardt and QG, I'm feeling better now. It lasted abut a week and was a lot of up and down moods. I'd feel up for 6 hours, then I'd get totally depressed for the rest of the day. And sleep a ton. I don't know if that's a mixed episode or not, doesn't really matter I guess. It's just uncomfortable. Thankfully I didn't feel like hurting myself or have thoughts of doing so.

I don't have a psychiatrist right now... I'm about to see a primary care physician and am hoping he can prescribe the meds i'm already on. Should be able to. Hopefully.

I recently moved to a new, smaller city to escape the stress of my old life. Left my job too. So while I'm doing much better than I was, my symptoms are still there to a degree. Should probably count my blessings.

I'm glad you feel better. That's what's the most important, that you're mood is better. I can relate a bit. I was going up and down daily like you describe. Eventually it settled itself and I became stable. Now, I'm a little bit low, not very noticeable but it's there.

I hope everything works out with your doctor and your meds. And also, it's great to hear you moved and will have less stress. Come back here and update when you can. It'll be nice to see that you're doing ok...Hugs...

Son that sounds great.

Im crossing my fingers and am confident this will keep going like this. Dont stress it out.

Small towns are good.

Id definitely look for a doc ASAP, no stress but take the chance when you feel stable to do it; it will also remove part of your fear of "what happens if I have a crisis again". At least thats what it does for me.

Keep it going a day at a time,
Peace, Bernie

Thank you both,

I'm looking at my mood chart and the predominant mood last week was hypo/manic. This week is depressed (makes sense). Today I have this strong sense of I'm-just-going-through-the-motions. Basic self care feels pointless (don't feel like making the bed or showering). And I'm sleeping 13 hours a night.

I am on a waiting list for a Dr, so I'm def already pursuing that. Until then my primary care physician is prescribing my current meds. Also, there is a walk-in clinic at a local hospital I've been referred to in case things get really bad.

I'm gonna make myself structure my day with productive activities. Im gonna take care of myself even though I don't feel like it.

I showered last night so I can have a lazy morning and just veg out on the computer. I have washed a few dishes and I feel like I've accomplished A LOT! Be gentle with yourself, as I tell myself when I am feeling just like you share. Structure is good like me washing a few dishes. Definitely boosts my mood. I feel better about myself. I'm so glad you have a walk in clinic available for you and that you are on a waiting list to see a pdoc. Hugs...
