My feedback on this:
*ECT today is not electroshocks of the 50s
*My mother was so deep in a hole 10 years ago, pumped up with meds, wanting to jump out the window... this saved her life
*Guess what this year: she has depression, stays in the ward 9 months.. and now this week shell do ECT again, she just cant go on like that. Probably Thursday. Then 8 sessions, twice a week. Then they stop and check her state.
*You're under anesthesia so you dont feel anything. They also use very short impulses that are safe
*Ive read papers saying : 78% remission for heavy depression patients
*You might have a bit of memory loss, but honestly my mother was fine with this and just glad each day was not hell anymore
*Some newer techniques even dont use eletrical current but other types of waves like magnetic.. not sure if thats efficient though
If you're in a deep depression phase and meds and others dont work, Id definitely go for it.
If you're feeling OK now, well, no rush.
Id only take time to discuss with the doctors, ask all your questions, have they treated patients with the same diagnose as you successfully; is there memory loss; and dig deeper/ google the unit- hospital offering the ECT. See if they're 'up to date' with the science and on top of it.
Best of luck to you,
