Recently diagnosed BP. May be having hypomanic episode now

Postby timeghost » Thu Sep 06, 2018 2:55 am

New to the forum!

I was recently diagnosed BP II. I'm pretty sure I'm going through a hypomanic episode right now, but I doc doesn't think so. I feel very energized, like I did some type of stimulant, but I don't feel euphoric or elated in the traditional sense of mania. I mostly have anxiety and insomnia. Is it possible to be hypomanic, but not have the traditional symptoms? It's driving me crazy, and my doctor hasn't been answering my calls.

Sure that sounds like it could be hypomania. What meds are you taking?
When I am hypomanic, I have insomnia/anxiety. I usually take klonopin to sleep and it goes away.
I haven't had much hypomania or severe depression since adding lithium.
Be kind to everyone you come across because you never know who’s suffering inside.

You can have subthreshold symptoms. I just learned about this, but you can have moodswings that don't qualify as full episodes according to the DSM, but do count as what I call a "bipolar moment." I'm not a doctor, but when I have a mild moodswing that wouldn't be normal for a regular person but also wouldn't grab a doctor's attention, I still consider it to be worth treating. If you want a problem to be fixed, then your doctor should work with you to fix it. You're the one experiencing the symptoms. If they're bad to you, they should be taken seriously!! Don't give up on harassing your doctor into helping you.
